About the Secretary of TransportationThe Secretary of Transportation takes on the role of the head of the Department of Transportation as well as the 12th line in succession. The Department's mission is stated: "To develop and coordinate policies that will provide an efficient and economical national transportation system, with due regard for need, the environment, and the national defense." Eleven agencies are overseen by the Secretary of Transportation. This Secretary's main focus is to oversee and make decisions about highway control, sea and air transportation, and travel by trains. They handle any issues that may come up and deal with highway reform. Any project to better transportation is handled by the Secretary of Transportation.
